Leaflet, 1986

In response to the surfeit of leaflets handed out every day on the sidewalks of New York City, Morse created Leaflet, a poem based on the messages — paper and otherwise — delivered and received on the city’s streets.

One thousand copies of the poem were printed on 8.5″x5.5″ sheets of paper in early spring 1986 and then handed out by the artist at three locations in Manhattan: Fifth Avenue in front of the Empire State Building, Astor Place and Lafayette Street, and Soho on Prince Street.

Each leaflet was creased on the upper-righthand corner, referencing the notion of dog-eared book page to note “where you left off” and the ubiquitous corners of the city’s countless intersections.
